Rotterdam RDM - the perfect base for global ambition
This is the dawn of a new age in construction. Germany, The Netherlands, USA, Japan and the UK have each announced major investment programs to repair and expand their national infrastructure. But new projects demand new insights to reduce the environmental impact of (re-)construction.
The Netherlands has built a global reputation in distribution and harmonised logistics. But many bridges and quaysides are showing their age – and any downtime in our critical infrastructure can have major knock-on effects for the economy.
We have harnessed decades of knowledge and proven scientific expertise to make new construction materials that fit the rigorous demands of today’s society. We founded MgAubel in February 2015, building on a very close and successful relationships with Delft University of Technology and the start-up incubator Yes!Delft.
We have now validated our business model and have moved to our new site at RDM in Rotterdam to scale up.
SOFIE Fund Rotterdam
The SOFIE fund makes an important contribution to the revitalization of the Rotterdam Port area by helping to fund projects they see as having a great chance for success. These projects are supported by the European funds for regional development. MgAubel has been selected by the SOFIE fund as one of their supported projects.
Building our new innovation centre
At first glance, it looks like something out of a James Bond film. In fact these giant “hangars” on the edge of the RDM campus were used in the 1920’s by skilled craftsmen to forge ships boilers and industrial machinery. This was an era when Rotterdam was an important ship- and submarine building centre. Today, the finishing touches are being made to a massive restoration project. These buildings will shortly house the modern maker-industries of the 21st century. MgAubel will be one of the first tenants in the summer of 2017.
Tapping the Talent Pool of Tomorrow
There is plenty of space to manufacture our products, and it’s an easily accessible location by water and road. And we are next door to Hogeschool Rotterdam (Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences). They get access to state-of-the-art facilities, labs and equipment. As MgAubel expands, we will be able to offer more students the opportunity to work on real-world materials projects, and encourage young people to opt for a technical degree program.
